Collaborations with Tribes and First Nations
Tribal and First Nations involvement in collaborative efforts in the Crown of the Continent has increased substantially over the past years, due in large part to participation in the Adaptive Management Initiative. By targeting funding to projects that incorporate traditional knowledge, assist with tribal management, and establish connections with tribes and First Nations, the AMI has helped to engage tribal interests and voices in larger regional conservation. As stewards of this land for millennia, the indigenous peoples of the Crown of the Continent have much to teach. Incorporating and integrating tribal knowledge and practices into federal, state, and provincial natural resource management significantly enhances the overall health of the Crown landscape and communities.
